Join us for swashbuckling adventure and fun with The Pirates of Penzance. Young Frederic has been accidentally apprenticed to a band of pirates, and is torn between his loathing of their trade, the duty of his apprenticeship, and his affection for the lovely Mabel.
Bumbling bobbies, a bevy of beautiful maidens, and a comical modern major general round out the cast of this delightful musical comedy featuring lilting melodies and clever patter songs in the absolute best British tradition.
People have different ideas about what material is appropriate, both for themselves and their families. This guide is provided to give you information to determine if the content of this production is suitable for you and your loved ones. Please be aware that this information is provided with the intent of disclosure, and therefore contains plot spoilers:
There is no overtly sexual content or innuendo. The pirates at one point do develop a plan to kidnap the daughters and marry them, but they are very quickly thwarted.
The pirates open the show drinking “sherry” and making a toast to Frederic, who has newly turned twenty-one. Otherwise there is no alcohol, drug use, or profanity.
The pirates, Major General, and bobbies employ swords, pistols, etc throughout the show. However this is all clearly theatrical (and rather ridiculous) and the weapons are never utilized in a way that simulates actual violence or the threat of violence.
