Tell me a brief history of the theater.
Leavenworth Summer Theater began as the vision of John and Susan Wagner
and Bill Weis in 1994. That opening season was hampered by devastating fires
in the Leavenworth area in addition to the normal first year struggles, and
the theater suffered severe financial losses. The Wagners decided to give it
one more try in the summer of 1995 with a production of The Sound of Music.
A great cast, a terrific outdoor location, and the natural compatibility of
the show with Leavenworth's Bavarian theme created a sensationally successful
production. Today, Leavenworth Summer Theater is the largest theater between
Seattle and Spokane, with more than 20,000 people expected for this year's
productions.
Whats the weather like?
Summer is usually dry in Leavenworth, and rainouts are rare. Many people
travel great distances to see our shows, so we will plan to go on with the
show whenever possible. If conditions should cause us to cancel a show before
intermission, you may call the box office and a refund check will be mailed
to you within six weeks. Refunds will not be available on site. In any event,
it is wise to bring a warm jacket and cap, as the dry mountain air cools
rapidly after sunset. Umbrellas are not permitted since they block the view
of other guests.
How far is it from Seattle?
Its usually a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive depending
on traffic. You should allow at least an extra hour in
case of road construction delays. Late arrivals are seated
at the back of the theater. To avoid any problem, come
early and enjoy the Leavenworth area, downtown shopping
and restaurants.
Where can I find lodging?
Visit the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce web site for
information, phone numbers and links to lodging sites
on the Internet.
May I donate my tickets?
Yes. If you cannot attend your performance and do not wish
to give your tickets to friends or family, your tickets
may be donated for tax credit. Simply return your tickets
in person or by mail to the Ticket Office before the
scheduled performance and the box office will give you
a receipt for the tickets.
